Laurie + Ian: Hendry House Engagement Session

This engagement session was one of my favorites to date with a pretty fabulous couple. From the champagne picnic, a bicycle built for two, and an incredibly gorgeous couple…I was in engagement session heaven!! Laurie and Ian are high school sweethearts who have been dating for 9 years and in 145 days they become husband and wife! Thrilled to capture it all later this year when they get married at the beautiful White Orchid at Oasis!

Ritz Carlton Resort, Naples, Florida Wedding: Christopher + Carrie

Somtimes with destination weddings, we aren’t able to meet in person with the bride and groom until the day of their wedding. And to be honest, this can be so incredibly nervewracking. It’s like a blind date with people you’re/we’re spending the whole day with. Thankfully, it’s always been just fine, but I don’t think the nerves of the unknown first meeting will ever go away. The best though is when you show up, meet the bride and they make you feel like you’ve known her a lifetime the second you walk in the room. This is how it was with Carrie. My sister second shot this wedding with me and I think she must have said 5 times, “I think you’re the nicest bride I’ve ever met!” (disclaimer: we have awesome, amazing and fabulous brides, so this is quite the compliment).
Carrie and Chris’ Ritz Carlton Beach Resort wedding was a perfect way to end our March weddings and we couldn’t imagine a better couple or more perfect day.
Carrie and Chris, thank you so much for allowing us to capture your beautiful day. We wish you two a lifetime of fun, happiness and the most wonderful of marriages!

brittany + tyler: labelle engagement session

My favorite kind of brides are those who completely trust me, without reservation, and allow me to capture their day or their session, fully relying on me to tell their story through my lens. I think it’s so important that whoever you choose to capture your day is someone you fully trust. Someone that provides ease in knowing that you’ve hired the right person for you and they will undoubtedly be able to capture photographs that you will cherish forever. And I’m always so, so thankful when brides relinquish the control and just let me do my thing.
This was Brittany…and of course, Tyler too. 🙂 Brittany was basically an open book and had no hesitation, letting me know she completely trusted me and she was completely willing for whatever the session held. We had such a great time roaming through Labelle (this little town gets me every.single.time.) and both B+T did so fabulous for the camera. Pretty excited to work with this couple again later this year for their wedding!

The Today Show!!!

photo-1

This past weekend we were so, so thrilled to get word the Today Show had published one of our recent weddings that took place at the Edison Ford Winter Estates! Talk about jaw dropping when I typed in today.com, and right there under Matt Lauer’s face (well, you get the idea) is a photo of Morgan and Dominic featuring their Real Wedding!

Just a little sidenote…my sister and I are HUGE fans. In fact, it’s not uncommon for our morning texting to consist of “watch at 7:12”, or “did you see________”. If we were in NYC (hopefully one day), we would absolutely be the crazy people up in the middle of the night to get our spot on the plaza, of course, signs in hand. Sometimes, I think it may have a little bit to do with the fact that Matt Lauer reminds both of us of our dad.

Anyway, thank you so much to the Today Show for selecting this wedding. Also, huge thanks to Hope Artistry, Tori Weatherford, the Derek Trenholm Band and Fort Myers Floral Artistry for everything they did to make my job easy.

Go read the article HERE. I promise, it’s an incredible love story and a must read!!!

The Osprey.

2014-01-21_0001
(don’t judge…iphone photography at it’s finest..)

What was planned to be a 10 minute favor for a friend (picking her up from a car shop and taking her home), led to a 3 hour adventure filled with curve balls this morning….which included the rescuing of this broken winged osprey.

Reminds me of what God ultimately did for us (and just to be clear, I am in no way comparing myself to Jesus–the only thing good in me is him). This bird couldn’t save himself, he couldn’t walk or fly, and was likely going to starve. As much as the momma bird kept flying in and was trying to help, there was nothing she could do to really bring this bird to being healed, restored to good health and saved. She could only love and try to take care–which was very cool to see–but this bird needed to be picked up and carried. (How desperately I needed this reminder. God is faithful. I am called to love.) How amazing our Ultimate Rescuer is to pick us up and take us in, heal us, help us, comfort us and set us free–with our lives changed forever. The best part of all? This bird, just like us, didn’t and couldn’t do anything to earn rescuing and it’s saving state. Grace is a beautiful thing…and God is good.

Godliness, Glory and Grace.

Every morning my alarm is set for 6am, to be sure I enjoy a cup of coffee and spend some time with the Lord before our little ones are up and the craziness of our day begins. Today was no different…except after I got up, I just didn’t want to. To be honest, I wanted to check instagram, pinterest and pretty much involve myself in any other distraction that would keep me from spending with what matters most. Temptation at it’s finest.

So, with a few minutes before the early morning school routine, I opened my bible, read a little from my reading plan and spent the last few seconds reflecting on the message at our bible study yesterday. I long to read my bible pretty much every morning and this quiet time with the Lord is always well spent. How amazing is it that God works in such a way that the one morning I didn’t feel like spending with Him, He speaks so clearly and so powerfully to me. And even more, pursues me, so undeservingly. Truly, what the enemy means for evil, God is so, so faithful to turn it for our good and for his glory!

Once our kids were up and the kids were dropped off, I jumped right back where I left off. And then it hit me. One of my great friends said yesterday, “Are we living like God’s unconditional acceptance is enough?” Follow me here, because this quote took me back a few days when the Lord challenged me with 2 Timothy 3:5 (and has continue to do so), where it says, “having the appearance of godliness but denying it’s power.” Do I appear godly? Of course I hope so and I’d like to say so–even though I battle my flesh, yell at my kids sometimes, argue with my husband on occasion and fall short every day. Thankfully, there is grace for all these moments and the battle is already won through Jesus’ death on the cross.

But the second half of this verse is what’s convicting me–“…but denying it’s power.” Power is the present, effective working of God in and through believers lives. Although I may be completely off, this denial of power likely comes through words and the vocal expression of God’s goodness, glory and grace. I’m not blatently denying the Lord’s power, but when I fail to speak up and give him the glory, in essence, I’m doing exactly what I don’t want to do (Romans 7:15).

Then the other part of not speaking up deals with my desire for perfectionism. Often, I don’t speak up out of fear that what I say may not perfectly align up with truth, or may make me appear less godly. Going further, I may not speak up since I so often desire to please people, which is clearly not pleasing to the Lord. (For am I seeking the approval of man or of God? Or am I still trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10).  So I say nothing at all. And then, obviously, there’s pride in all of this as well.

Anyway, I know this post is somewhat of a jumbled mess, but I guess that’s just my heart lately (in a good way!). I’m thankful our God reveals truth, frees me from my failure, provides grace upon grace and His acceptance of me really is enough. God is clear in scripture that His power is made perfect in my weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9); isn’t it funny how we’re brought up and taught to be strong, independent people (at least I was), and now as an adult, slowly realizing how much freedom there is in being weak. God is not looking for equality with him, but rather for me to rid me of myself FOR him. One of my biggest prayers this year is that God, in his love, kindness and grace, continues to drive me to a position of weakness in my flesh…where his power can then be made perfect. Happy Friday people!

morgan + matt: fort myers engagement session

I loved capturing this sweet couple from Knoxville, Tennessee a few weeks ago. Meeting through tennis a few years ago, these two decided to team up as doubles and things have only gotten better from there. Not only did they win the National Championship this past year, but they also got engaged in October. And after spending just a little bit of time with them, you’ll know these two are a perfect match- on and off the court!

2013 Mini Sessions

minisfinal

Our 2013 mini session dates are here and we are so, so looking forward to another great time of capturing great families! Sessions are limited and are on a first come, first serve basis. Also, so many have asked for a beach session so we’re giving in and holding our sessions on November 17th at Bowditch Point (the north end of Fort Myers Beach). Email us at maria@mariaglassford.com, letting us know which date you desire. We will get in contact and have everyone scheduled with their time within 48 hours. To officially book your scheduled time, a $50 deposit is required, with the remaining balance due at the beginning of your session.
stella

Also, we are glad to announce that 10% off all session fees will be donated to Stella Fraterelli, along with 25% of all products. Stella and her family were a part of our mini sessions last year and we want these proceeds to bless them during the Christmas season. Here’s a photo of this sweet girl that was taken back in April (shortly after her diagnosis), when I visited her at the hospital.

chelsea + mike: chicago engagement session

Last month we traveled up to Chicago to shoot Chelsea and Mike’s engagement session in the city. Such a great time spent with a great couple!! The whole day was such a great reminder of just how much I love my job. Traveling, seeing our beautiful country and being surrounded by awesome people…goodness, blessed seems like an understatement.
Chelsea and Mike, I’m so looking forward to your wedding next month…it’s going to be an incredible day!

verandah country club wedding: ashleydawn + brandon

Blessed, blessed, blessed. I don’t know if there are more perfect words to describe my time, the friendship that has been built and the absolutely blessing it has been to work and capture the relationship and marriage of Ashleydawn and Brandon. Truly, a special couple.

Three years of sitting in church and building a friendship with a sweet, older couple, is exactly how God began this love story with Brandon and Ashleydawn. Every Sunday, Ashleydawn would spend time chatting with Joanne and Alan, and through the years this bond grew stronger, especially as they watched her relationship with Jesus blossom.

I still remember the first time I met with Ashleydawn. Besides their love story being really amazing, I loved her heart. Ashleydawn was in a spot where she was wholeheartedly seeking the Lord…and nothing else. She wasn’t looking for a boyfriend, a husband, she was truly just searching for God’s will and plan in her life.

On March 25th,2012 after going to the alter and giving every dream to God completely and entirely, Ashleydawn went back to her seat. Joanne sweetly grabbed her hand and proceeded to ask her a few questions…”How old are you?”  “And you’re not married?” “Do you have a boyfriend?”

Joanne then looks at her husband Alan and says “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?!”

2013-06-24_0026.jpg

2013-06-24_0038.jpg
Joanne then goes on to talk about her grandson, Brandon, who was a missionary for 7 years and how he has a heart completely for Christ. She asked Ashleydawn for her information and if she had “the facebook”. Giving it to her honestly just to be nice, and surely not thinking anything would EVER happen or come from it. However, a week later, to her surprise, Ashleydawn get an email from a gentleman, who lived in Ohio, asking me for the opportunity to get to know me…

marissa + tony: the club at the strand wedding

Both homeschooled growing up, Tony and Marissa, ended up in the same online academy. Meeting online for the first time in October of 2009, they instantly hit it off but there was quite the distance between the two. Tony lived in Michigan and Marissa lived in Florida. After spending countless hours getting to know one another and eight months after meeting online, Tony somehow convinced his family to take a vacation down to Naples. On June 17th, 2010 Tony and Marissa met in person for the very first time.

the club at renaissance: rachel + jon wedding

One thing is certain when living in Florida…hurricanes. With hurricanes come cancelled school, work, and a frantic rush to buy the batteries, water, flashlights and other needed necessities. And then we wait. Back in 2006, starts the love story of Rachel and Jon, thanks to Hurricane Ernesto. With their college classes cancelled, they ended up meeting at a Hurricane Party (for those non-Floridians, this is common because the waiting game can get quite long and tedious!). The Hurricane never came to be (at least in our area) but Rachel and Jon instantly hit it off and went on their first date a few days later.

Naples Yacht Club Nautical Wedding: Steph + Jake

Oh my goodness, be still my heart. One of the things I love most (outside of my couples) is that each wedding is truly unique and different, from colors, decor, style, location, etc. Every wedding is pretty much like walking out Christmas morning- seeing everything I’ve heard about come to fruition and the excitement of finally seeing all the details (my fave!) first hand. Steph and Jake’s wedding was absolutely no exception to this. I about died when I walked into the room and saw the beautiful tables, flowers, detail…the list goes on and one. Seriously, Courtney at Fabulously Chic did an AMAZINGGG job- not only is she a great planner and coordinator but she has such great taste to top it all off.

Steph and Jake, congratulations!! It was a great honor to shoot your wedding and cover every moment of your beautiful day!

friday favorites: spring break, blogstomp and my bff

– 3v3 soccer season. As gymnastics season for Kyla comes to a close (competition wise), we now begin the training and tournaments for 3v3 soccer. We have our first tournament this Sunday in Winter Haven and I’m super pumped. Last year, we went to Nationals, where we finished 2nd, and had the BEST time. We’re looking forward to what’s hopefully the beginning of another fabulous season with a great group of girls!

20130405-080846.jpg

– Spring Break…and the countdown to SUMMER! We had so much fun last week with our kids being home from school! From days at the pool, beach, Busch Gardens, the movies…ahhh, I’m so looking forward to having my kids home next month and not having to leave the house by 7:30 every morning!

– Grace for the Good Girl. My current read. Only on chapter 2 but so far, SO good. Excited to see how God uses this book in my life.

“All he wants is simply you- minus your good works, minus your perfect attendance, minus your politeness. When you really believe that, you may discover that all you want is Jesus, simply Jesus. ” Such a simple statement, but so profound when sifting through the safeness of trying to manage my “goodness” (which there really isn’t any) rather than resting in His freedom. Praying I come more undone and become more overwhelmed with Him and His goodness; knowing He will not come undone and is un-overwhelmable.

– Blogstomp. I really do have a desire to blog….but it can be so time consuming, and frankly, it just seems like there’s not enough time in a day. 🙁 However, blogstomp may just have changed my life..and well, my blog for that matter. I purchased it about 4 years ago but they’ve updated their product in some pretty incredible ways. I think I’m sold and I think you should be ready for a much more active mgp blog!

– Natalie, one of my dearest friends, is having her second little girl this coming Monday and I am SOOOO excited!!! Her friendship has been a huge blessing over the past 16 years or so (even though we’ve lived in different states for the past 12 years) and I’m pretty crazy about her cute family!

burroughs home wedding: nicole + guy

Congratulations Nicole and Guy! It was a great honor to be a part of your special day and I wish you guys the most amazing love and joy filled marriage for years and years to come!

kensington country club wedding: elizabeth + chris

I think one of the things I treasure and love most about my job is that I get to meet, work and build relationships with so many different people. I get to hear their stories, how they met, how they got engaged and then the vision they have for their wedding.
A few weeks ago, I got to shoot chris and liz’s wedding at Kensington Country Club, in Naples, Florida. I cannot even begin to tell you how wonderful it’s been working with these two, from the beginning stages of engagement up to the very day of their wedding. Liz and Chris, thanks for trusting me to tell your story through photographs. It was a true honor and such a blessing to work with you guys over the past year!

Friday Favorites: Jamaica, Wedding Season + A Little Gymnastics

It’s been a long time since I’ve listed my Friday favorites and I just can’t stop thinking about the crazy blessings I’m experiencing. So thankful for this great season.

– Wedding Season is upon us. It’s going be a CRAZY few months but I have the best clients in the world, so with craziness comes great excitement!! The next 18 Saturdays have 16 weddings. As hard as it is to leave my family on their “day off”, I’m thankful to have a job I just love and have a blast doing.

– We’re in the middle of Kyla’s gymnastics season and she’s doing so, so awesome at all of her meets! It’s been such a journey, filled with ups and downs, but God has blessed her remarkably with athletic talent and it’s a true joy to watch her flourish in her sports. I’m a proud momma.
20130308-112057.jpg

– JAMAICA!!! We are THRILLED to shoot Monique and Jim’s destination wedding next year in Ochos Rios. We are so thankful they chose us and are honored to get to capture their big day in this beautiful place! Here’s a sneak from their engagement session…definitely will be sharing more soon!

– Beth Moore’s Believing God study. This study is rocking my world and is teaching me so much about myself, my shortcomings and my calling. In a good way. Gods at work and I’m praying for great heart change in the process.-coffee.

Im posting this while in the middle a fabulous pedicure and were Fort Lauderdale bound in about 2 hours for another gymnastics meet! Happy, happy Friday!

Morgan + Dominic: Edison Ford Winter Estates Engagement Session

{You know blogging has been a long time coming when your “To Blog” folder is overflowing and the hard drive on your computer is completely full. We’ve had a remarkable past few months with so many shoots and weddings to share, so hopefully in the next few days and weeks I can get my butt in gear and get this blog going again…}

If you didn’t know already, I grew up on the soccer fields. Some of my favorite memories growing up were on the fields and during the countless tournaments we traveled all over Florida to play in. Many friends were made, including Morgan, during these years of playing for the Strikers. In fact, Morgan was on my sister’s team, so I always looked forward to playing with her baby brothers during the games. Also, on my sister’s team was Cat (who was their amazing goalie). And Cat had a brother named Dominic (who also played on the Strikers). This was back in the 1990’s. Following me here?

Scroll forward to 2012. Dominic and Morgan ended up reconnecting after a whole lot of years of not seeing each other. And quickly fell in love.

{For all you former Strikers out there, how awesome are these shirts they had made?!}

Aren’t they just beautiful together? This summer they’ll exchange vows at The Edison Ford Winter Estates and I’m honored to tell the story through photographs.
undeniable LOVE.
You guys are just too cute…

…and so gorgeous!!

Morgan and Dominic, I am crazy excited to work with you guys on your big day in June. I had so much fun with you guys and I know your day is going to be absolutely incredible!!

Mini Session Recommendations

– Always start with mom’s wardrobe. Mom, make sure you wear something you absolutely love!! If you don’t like what you’re wearing, chances are, you won’t love your photos.

– Lay your outfit choices out to get an idea of what it will look like together.

– Wear clothing that you’re comfortable in.

– Layers (whether it be a belt, jewelry piece, cardigan, etc.) are always great and add to your photos!!

– We’re totally great with colorful clothes that compliment each other and we recommend avoiding “matchy” clothes (ie. white tops and khaki bottoms).

– Moms, apply your makeup in natural light for best results. Also, it’s usually recommended to go slightly brighter/heavier on your cheeks, eyes and lips since makeup tends to look toned down in photos.

– Make sure everyone is on the same page. Meaning, if you’re going to dress casual, have everyone in the same casual style and vice-versa, if you’re dressing more formal.

– We love patterns (plaid, stripes, etc.) BUT be careful not to overdo it (and no big logos)! Make sure you put some solid clothing pieces into your families wardrobe.

_ We generally recommend to avoid solid black.

-Here’s a pinterest board we LOVE and could maybe help you on your selection:
http://pinterest.com/traceable/photo-shoot-what-to-wear/

– Come ready to have fun!! We’re all about laughing and making sure the shoot is enjoyable for everyone!!

– Lastly, please, please don’t be late. We have to run on a super tight schedule, especially since the sun sets early, so please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your start time.

Friday Favorites: It’s Homecoming Day!

I have a crazy busy day ahead but I wanted to fit in a quick little blog with the absolute highlight of my day. Dear friends of ours, John and Kelly, adopted Jade, a beautiful 2 year old little girl from China a week and a half ago, and they arrive back home this afternoon. Jade is coming home to her family that consists of her big sister, Maddie, big brother Drue,  her oldest sister, Lauren (who is one of my fabulous second shooters!! : )), who is married to Bill and together, they have baby Selah. Oh, how Jade will be so incredibly loved!!

(L-R: Maddie, Drue, Kelly, John, Lauren (carrying baby Selah), and Bill)

Ever since they had a heart for adoption, I have always told Kelly that I would be at the airport, capturing that precious moment as they walk off the plane and into the arms of their closest friends and family. Today, is finally that day. To read more about their journey for Jade- check out their blog HERE. God is so good, so faithful and so loving and seeing His work as He purposefully knitted this little girl to her forever family has been astounding!!! It has been a true blessing watching them on this journey. Seriously, 3pm cannot come soon enough!!! Happy, happy, joyous Friday!! : )

My Baby is 5!

Happy Birthday Jonah!!!! How is it even possible that it’s been 5 years since my Jonah was born? FIVE. As in, a whole hand and a whole lot of days we’ve shared together to get to this point, in what seems like an instant. Although, I sadly can’t remember every memory and every day, I know without a doubt we’ve had more laughter, more joy, more fun and more love with this little man in our family.

A few things I currently love about my Jonah boy…

– He always has his clothes on inside out…or backwards. It’s inevitable, and I love it.

– He’s a people pleaser. He never wants to make his mommy or daddy upset.

– He never tests the limits and is full of caution.

– His favorite ride at Busch Gardens is the carousel…and any other slow ride.

– He loves riding his bike.

– He loves to play Playdough.

– He’s simple.

– He could play board games all day long.

– He insists on a book before bed every single night. Even if it’s way too late.

– He has a pure passion and incredible love for music…and always has.

– He wants to play the guitar.

– He was my hardest baby (by far) and my easiest child.

– He’s shy, nervous, and quiet. Until you know him.

– He loves his sleep.

– His nicknames are JQ (for Jonah Quinton), Jo, JoJo and J. He answers to them all.

– He actually asks me to take pictures of him.

– He is super modest.

-He loves to pray (and every time his eyes are squeezed shut and his hands are folded….both of them, as hard as he possibly can).

-He always wants me to sleep with him for a few minutes after I tuck him in.

– He brushes his teeth and does his hair every morning without me asking.

– He is athletic and has some crazy speed behind his little legs!

– He loves preschool and is always so proud to get through the day without crying.

– He’s sensitive.

– His birthday list this year consisted of a bike helmet, a toothbrush and a tree. My sister insists he’s turning 85, instead of 5.

– He loves to love.

Every birthday I instantly turn into a ball of emotions, not really knowing wether to be happy, sad, excited or confused.  I’m excited for him to be 5 and yet sad that he is growing into a big boy more and more by the day. I can’t get days back with Jonah and while he is 5, I want to soak up every ounce of him, treasuring each passing second, knowing it’s truly a gift.

We are so grateful the Lord blessed us with you, sweet, handsome boy!! And what a unbelievable blessing you are. Jonah, you are such a joy to us and we are so honored to be your parents. Happy Birthday Jonah- we love you so, so much!!!

Mariah and Mike: Jet Blue Stadium Engagement Session, Fort Myers, Florida

She grew up playing softball and he grew up playing baseball. So, when Mariah told me that they wanted to do their engagement shoot at jetBlue Park, it seemed to suit them perfectly. Not only do I love shooting in new locations, but shooting at a location that is specifically chosen because it represents the couple is the best….

Mariah and Mike, it was fabulous to capture your love. And joy.

Mike, you did good. Really good. Not only is the ring stunning, but the proposal at the Rockefeller ice skating rink in NYC is definitely up there on the list of best proposals ever.

Mariah, you are gorgeous!!

One of my favorites….

Mariah and Mike, it was so great getting to know and also work with you guys! I hope you had a blast and that your baseball engagement session is everything you envisioned it to be!!
